Day/Time

: Due to limited pool space we practice in three, 1-hour sessions on Sunday afternoons. Athletes may only attend one session. It is requested that athletes remain in the same session for the duration of the season.
  • Session 1: 11:00am-noon
  • Session 2: noon-1:00pm
  • Session 3: 1:00-2:00pm

Equipment Needed

  1. Girls: one-piece swim suits only
  2. Boys: trunks, speedos, or jammers.
  3. Towel
  4. Goggles (optional)

Swimming is one of the most popular sports in the world. Unlike other sports, swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, second, for sports and competition purposes. Aquatics covers a great variety of swimming skills, from short sprints to longer events and relays. Special Olympics offers many Aquatic Events!

Individual Events

  • 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 Meter Freestyle
  • 25, 50, 100, 200 Meter Backstroke
  • 25, 50, 100, 200 Meter Breaststroke
  • 25, 50, 100, 200 Meter Butterfly
  • 100, 200, 400 Meter Individual Medley (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle)

Relay Events

  • Traditional and Unified Sports®: 100, 200, 400, 800 Meter Freestyle Relay
